Why Your Annual Well-Woman Exam is Non-Negotiable

Why Your Annual Well-Woman Exam is Non-Negotiable

Taking care of your health is one of the most powerful choices you can make, yet it is easy to let routine visits slide when life gets busy. Your annual well-woman exam is a vital tool for staying ahead of potential health issues before they start.

At Philadelphia Women's Health & Wellness in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, our board-certified gynecologists, Dr. Victoria Myers, MD, Dr. Jacqueline Kohl, MD, and Dr. Allison Keen, MD, provide personalized care tailored to your unique life stage. We make these yearly visits comfortable, supportive, and highly focused on your long-term wellness.

What happens during a well-woman visit?

A well-woman exam is much more than just a quick checkup. It is a comprehensive preventive visit where we assess your physical, reproductive, and emotional health in a safe environment.

During this visit, we discuss your medical history, perform necessary physical exams, and talk about any symptoms you might be experiencing. It is also the perfect time to discuss options for birth control or discuss if a follow-up appointment is needed to manage transition symptoms like menopause.

Why worry about early screening and prevention?

Many serious health conditions do not show early warning signs, which is why consistent screenings are so critical. For example, getting regular Pap smears helps us detect precancerous changes in the cervix early, when they are highly treatable.

According to the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA, 2025), routine cervical cancer screening with a Pap test every three years for women aged 21 to 29 successfully identifies these changes before they progress. Unfortunately, many women are falling behind on these essential preventive measures.

Recent data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC, 2025) show that nearly 25 percent of eligible adults missed their cervical cancer screening, and 20 percent missed their breast cancer screening. Skipping these appointments means missing the window to catch silent health changes early.

Do you offer a dedicated space for my questions?

Your annual exam is also a dedicated time to address any concerns you have kept on the back burner. Whether you are dealing with unexplained pelvic pain, irregular cycles, or questions about sexual health, we are here to listen and plan appropriate followup. This may involve scheduling additional appointments to discuss a treatment care plan.

We want you to feel empowered and informed about your body at every age. Setting clear health goals with our team is one of the most effective actions you can take to protect your future self.

You do not have to wait for symptoms or problems to prioritize your health. Taking one hour out of your year for a preventive visit can change the course of your life. Contact our office to schedule your well-woman exam with our caring team today.
